Welcome to the world of Far Horizon Yachts™

Thank you for your interest in the Far Horizon Yachts™ (FHY) FH58 model, the all-steel yacht built for both comfort and safety. As you may have noted, our mission is “Safety at Sea with Steel” and we mean just that. The subject vessel is the Far Horizon 58, which is designed for long range economical operation by two experienced people. Its concept of being a Flush Deck Long Range Cruiser class yacht comes from the hugely popular 56’and 65’ FDLRC Hatteras models of the late 1980’s and early 1990’s, vessels that are still in high demand and maintain their investment to this day.

Steel is by no means a new material for commercial boat, yacht and ship building but it is having a very strong renaissance in the yacht building sector because of the new “coating systems” now available to steel yacht builders. The term “coating systems” is not just a politically correct term but represents layers of coatings from bare metal to the brilliance of its outermost coating. This is not your Father’s boat paint, but a huge advancement in rust and pitting control for steel vessels. Please note the article on this very subject by Brian Callow, our Senior Shipyard Supervisor and Coatings expert.

Also in this paper you will learn why steel is still the strongest and most protective, and yet not the heaviest, of the yacht building materials on the market. Many non-steel yacht builders claim that their hull material is “stronger than steel” but when you get down to the fine print, steel wins by a wide margin. We address this issue in the text of this brochure.

We will also get into the details of the Far Horizon 58 [FH58], the all steel, long range, and economical to operate, Flush Deck cruiser/trawler. While many builders tout their cosmetic features, FHY takes you “below decks” where things are not so pretty but very essential to the Owner’s comfort and safety. Many are expensive options on the competitor’s boats but we at FHY feel they are vital on a vessel that is truly an ocean capable vessel.

Yacht design is so critical and to discuss this is the designer of the FH58, Mr. Pat Bray. Pat’s company is Bray Yacht Design and Research, Ltd., of White Rock, British Columbia and the name says it all. FHY sought out Pat Bray because we had the concept of what we wanted the FH58 to be and Pat put it into reality. It should be noted that the FH58 was not only computer designed (CAD) but Pat and FHY demanded tank testing as well. Pat tells you why this is good and what it does to the FH58 in terms of efficiency and economy.

In a “Full 58 Feet” we discuss true length, thus interior accommodation and space. Length calculations are often misleading making the presented yacht to look larger than it really is. The truth often lies in the details and FHY spells it all out for you.

A “Yacht Built for Two” presents the FH58 in light of the number of people it takes to operate it…2. Given the dimensions of the FH58 [58’ Length x 18’4” Beam x 5’ 10” Draft], the space rivals vessels of 65 feet or more with lesser beams. The FH58 is a displacement hull but can attain speeds upwards of 11.5 knots with a very efficient cruise speed in the 8 to 9 knot area. This compares to the blaring headlines of some competitors of “3,000 miles of endurance at 6.5 knots.” We also discuss Fuel Curves and how they can affect the wallet.

Lastly, a full color rendering of the FH58 and its interior layout with specifications is included with this brochure of the FH58. Also listed are some options to the standard pricing in either individual or in package form.

We think you will find the reading very interesting and completely honest for a vessel that is very fairly priced.

This brochure/newsletter is filled with informative and interesting information important to a prospective Buyer and we at Far Horizon Yachts™ have attempted to do it in the most straight forward manner we know.
